Den 3 maj tillkännagavs vinnaren av LOEWE Craft Prize 2018, jag var en av de 30 finalisterna som kunde få priset. Denna gången gick priset till keramikern Jennifer Lee, UK på en summa av 50 000€. En välförtjänt prisvinnare så jag sänder alla mina gratulationer till henne.

Priset delades ut av skådespelaren Helen Mirren och juryen som hade valt ut vinnaren.
Det delades också ut 2 Honorable Prize till textil konstnären Simone Pheulpin, Frankrike och keramikern Takuro Kuwata, Japan.

I övrigt vill jag tacka LOEWE Foundation för deras helt otroliga professionella och imötekommande värdskap.
Jag kan säga att vi finalister alla kände oss som vinnare och väl omhändertagna. Och det bästa av allt, att vi 30 finalister fick mötas och lära känna varandra lite grann. Kontakter med kollegor betyder väldigt mycket.

Utställningen av alla finalister finns på Design Museet i London och pågår mellan den 4 Maj – 17 Juni 2018. Har du möjlighet att se den, gör det. du kommer att få se konsthantverk med hög kvalité!

The work of the prize winner Jennifer Lee

On 3 May the winner of the LOEWE Craft Prize 2018 was announced. This years prize went to the British ceramic artist Jennifer Lee. I send all my congratulations to her, she is really a worthy winner of this prize!

The prize was given by the actress Helen Mirren and the jury who had chosen the winner.
There were also two honorable prizes that went to the textile artist Simone Pheulpin, France and the ceramic artist Takuro Kuwata, Japan.

And I want to say Thank You for the team from LOEWE Foundation of their incredible professional work as hosts for all of us.
I think we all felt like winners in the appreciation of how you all treated us. We felt very well taken care of. Thank You!
And the best of all, that all the finalists met and got connected in some way. To meet colleagues means a lot!

The exhibition of all finalists are at the Design Museum in London between 4 May – 17 June. If you have the possibility to go there, please do!

Here are some photos from the exhibition Northern Lights that opened last wednesday at Contemporary Ceramics Center in London.
The exhibition is on from 12 April – 12 May 2018. The Gallery is situated opposite to British Museum at 63 Great Russel Street. The exhibition contains work from me Gunilla Maria Åkesson, Maria Kristofersson och Jussi Ojala, we ar all ceramic artists from Sweden.

Kom hem från London igår och hittade en artikel om mig i Ystads Allehanda, vår lokala tidning. Nu har jag gjort en pdf av artikeln så att alla kan läsa den. Så varsågod, följ PDF filen nedanför så hittar du artikeln.

When I returned from London I found an article about me and my work in our local newspaper. Because of my exhibition at Contemporary Ceramics Center in London and of course because I am shortlisted for the LOEWE Craft Prize 2018.
It´s difficult to translate the whole article but the content is me talking about the shape of my vessel as an archetypal form that we all recognize and remember in our unconsious minds. It´s a shape of simplicity, you don´t need to add anything to it and you don´t need to remove anything. It is enough in it self, a cylinder shaped vessel that we all know very well. That experience makes the vessel selfcontained, it is enough in it self and doesn´t need to be anymore then what it is, a Vessel that becomes a piece of unique art.

I see my self as a craft person. I like the everyday work of the craft that makes my vessels comes through as they are, similar but different. Each Vessel becomes a piece of unique art and each one need a character of their own to reach their own unique potential. It is my job to find that potential and to know when it is there.

Välkomna till utställningen Northern Lights som öppnar den 12 april 2018 på Contemporary Ceramic Center (CCC) i London. Galleriet ligger mitt emot British Museum och är en del av Craft Potters Association (CPA) verksamhet i UK. Ceramic Review är deras magasin om keramik. Utställningen står fram till den 12 maj.

Utställningen Northern Lights innehåller arbeten av mig dvs min sista arbeten som jag kallar “Vessel no. 1,2,3,4,5,6, – sista numret är ännu inte satt. Samt arbeten av två andra keramiker Maria Kristofersson och Jussi Ojala.

Inte heller i år kommer jag att ställa ut under Konstrundan. Jag har för mycket att göra på annat håll.

Den 12 april kommer jag att tillsammans med keramikerna Maria Kristofersson och Jussi Ojala öppna en utställning på Contemporay Ceramics Center, Russel Street, London (mitt emot British Museum). Utställningen har fått namnet “Northern Lights”
Den utställningen har tagit all min tid nu i vår och jag ska därför ta helt ledigt i påsk helgen och eventuellt besöka mina kollegor istället som har öppet under Konstrundan.

Men jag och Gittan Jönsson, vi brukar ställa ut tillsammans under Konstrundan, hoppas på att återkomma under nästa år i Råkulle Galleri i Brantevik. Om inget oförutsett händer med fler utställningar på annat håll eller något annat.

Då är det åter dags för COLLECT 2018, Saatchi Gallery mellan den 22 – 25 februari. Den internationella konsthantverksmässan i London. Jag har med mig 3 nya arbeten från den nya serien “Changes” i Galleri FORMATs stand. Jag kommer själv att vara i London mellan den 21 – 24 februari. Kanske vi träffas!

Once again you will find my work at Collect 2018, Saatchi Gallery, London on 22 – 25th february by Galleri FORMAT. This year I bring my new vessels called “Changes”. Welcome!

It is all mentioned in this weeks newsletter from Norwegian Craft: “When Collect 2018 opens next week at Saatchi Gallery. Galleri Format Oslo is there (as usual) with a group of exciting artists. Journalist Katie Treggiden has written about it in Norwegian Arts.The ten Norwegian artists who’ll be exhibiting with Galleri Format Oslo this year are Liv Blåvarp, Kari Håkonsen, Steen Ipsen, Vidar Koksvik, Elisabeth von Krogh, Nina Malterud, Kari Mølstad, Trude Westby Nordmark, Ann Beate Tempelhaug and Gunilla Maria Åkesson. Åkesson is a hot name right now and has just been shortlisted for the prestigious Loewe Craft Prize.“

Då är det officielt, jag är en av 30 finalister til LOEWE Craft Prize 2018 med mitt arbete från serien “Container” 2016. Den lyckliga vinnaren får 50 000 EUR. Vinnaren annonseras på utställningens öppnande den 3 maj 2018 på Design Museet i London. Utställningen står från 4 maj till 17 juni.
Om det blir jag som vinner får vi se……men jag är stolt och glad över att vara en av finalisterna. Det är flera kollegor med som jag har stor respekt för. Se mer på www.loewecraftprize.com 2018.
Vi 30 blev utvalda från 1.900 sökare, så juryen har varit igenom en tuff process. Här är ett citat från dem.

Regarding the selection process, Anatxu Zabalbeascoa, Executive
Secretary of the LOEWE Craft Prize Experts Panel, stated: ‘This year the
judging was harder than prior years, with the standard of applicants
impressively high across every category. Our chosen works reflect an
almost alchemical manipulation of each medium’s possibilities and reward
those who have mastered traditional skills in order to transform them
for the contemporary age. The selected finalists —who range in age from
27 to 76— are a multigenerational snapshot of the utmost excellence in
craft today.’

I´m honored and delighted to be one of the 30 finalists of the LOEWE Craft Prize 2018 with my work “Container” from 2016. All the work of the finalists will be exhibited at the Design Museum, London from 4 May – 17 June.

The finalists were chosen by a panel of experts from close to 1.900 submissions by artisans representing 86 countries. You can read the experts statement above.
